About BICO
The Beijing International Chamber Orchestra (BICO) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to unite foreign and local amateur and professional musicians to bring music to audiences in Asia. Currently at approximately 35 members, the orchestra is comprised of a diverse array of nationalities, including China, Russia, Georgia, Germany, Switzerland, France, Canada, Belgium, Korea, Hungary, England,Australia,Poland, Mexico,Japan, Taiwan, Netherlands and the United States.
Since November 2010 BICO is a certified member of the World Federation of Amateur Orchestras (NPO WFAO)
Formed in September 2007, BICO gives four pairs of formal concerts per year, performing a wide range of repertoire and instrumentation. . The remainder is dedicated to the BICO Chamber Music Series, which features smaller ensembles comprised of BICO members.
Also a special part of the orchestra´s mission is to bring classical music to young audience.
In addition to the eight formal concerts a year, BICO is also frequently invited to perform at various functions in the Beijing community, such as benefit performances on March 19-20th 2011 for the Earthquake and Tsunami victims in Japan, the First Annual Russian Ball in April 2009 and The Beijing Axis’ Networking Conference in June 2009. In August 2008, the orchestra performed a benefit concert for the Sichuan Earthquake.
Half of all the BICO performances are supporting the charities. BICO looks forward to seeking other meaningful purposes for its future concerts.
